Which Fujifilm Camera Is Right for You in 2025?

As someone who runs a YouTube channel focused on Fujifilm cameras, I get asked all the time: Is this Fujifilm camera good? Should I buy it? What do you think about the new [insert camera name here]? Instead of answering the same questions over and over, I’ve put together this guide to help you decide which Fujifilm camera is right for you.

This is purely my opinion, based on my experience and knowledge of the Fujifilm ecosystem. I’ll break it down into three categories:

  1. Cameras I have owned or used extensively – I can give you firsthand insights and recommendations.

  2. New Fujifilm cameras – I haven’t personally used these but can share my informed opinion.

  3. Cameras I don’t know much about – I’ll still provide some thoughts based on what I know about Fujifilm’s lineup.

Cameras I Have Owned or Used

Fujifilm X-T3 – For Serious Amateur Photographers

My introduction to the X-T3 was through a friend who used it as a stills photographer on a Netflix production. This camera is fantastic for photography, packing a serious punch even today. It lacks in-body stabilisation (IBIS), making it less ideal for video, but with an OIS lens like the 18-55mm, it can still perform well. If you’re a serious amateur photographer, the X-T3 is a solid choice.

Fujifilm X100F – For Street & Travel Photographers

I didn’t click with this camera as much as I expected. I got caught up in the hype, but because I lived in a rural area at the time, I found it limiting. The fixed 23mm lens (35mm equivalent) is ideal for street and travel photography but not as beginner-friendly. If you're a developing photographer, this might not be the best first camera for you.

Fujifilm X-H2S – For Professional Creators

This is my current workhorse. It’s a powerhouse for both photography and video, making it the perfect camera for full-time photographers and content creators. While there have been autofocus debates, it has never let me down. The articulating screen is great for video work, and it’s been my go-to for two years. If you’re serious about your craft and need a versatile, professional tool, this is the one.

Fujifilm X-Pro3 – For Enthusiastic Photographers

The X-Pro3 is stylish and inspiring, but I rarely use it for client work. The hidden screen and small batteries make it less practical for professional shoots. However, if you love the rangefinder-style experience and want a camera that makes you slow down and think about your shots, this is for you.

Fujifilm X-T30 II – For Enthusiasts & Semi-Pros

This camera sits perfectly between beginner and professional use. It’s small, lightweight, and delivers fantastic image quality. If you’re an enthusiastic photographer looking for a powerful yet compact option, the X-T30 II is an excellent investment.

Fujifilm X-S20 – For Hybrid Creators

I owned the X-S20 but sold it before a big trip due to overheating concerns. However, I miss it. It’s the ideal hybrid camera for photographers and videographers, with features like 6.2K open gate recording and a fully articulating screen. If you want a capable content creation tool without going all-in on an X-H2S, this is a great choice.

New Fujifilm Cameras – My Thoughts

Fujifilm X-M5

This one doesn’t interest me much. It lacks a viewfinder, which is a deal-breaker for me. If you want all the latest Fujifilm features in a compact body, it might work for you, but I’d steer people more towards the X-T30 series instead.

Fujifilm X-T50

This camera has a dedicated film simulation dial, which is fantastic if you love Fuji’s film presets. It also has the latest X-Trans 5 processor and a 40MP sensor, making it a powerful travel-friendly option. It’s pricey but ideal for mid-tier photographers who want high-end image quality in a compact package.

Fujifilm X100VI

I just got my hands on this after saying I didn’t need it! My work has shifted more towards street and travel photography, and the 35mm equivalent focal length is perfect for that. It forces me to think more creatively and refine my skills. However, if you’re new to photography, you might be better off with a more versatile camera before committing to a fixed-lens setup.

Cameras I Don’t Know Much About

Fujifilm XE Series (XE1–XE4)

I’ve never used any of the XE cameras, but they seem like a great entry point for street photographers who want a compact, rangefinder-style camera with interchangeable lenses. If you’re a beginner interested in street photography, this might be a more flexible option than the X100 series.

Fujifilm GFX Series

I haven’t used these, but they’re high-end medium format cameras designed for serious professionals. If you’re a beginner with a large budget thinking about buying one, I’d suggest looking at more practical options first.

Final Thoughts

This guide is based on my personal experience and opinion. If you’re trying to figure out which Fujifilm camera to buy, think about what you need it for and what features matter most to you. Hopefully, this has helped steer you in the right direction!
