The One Fujifilm Camera I Regret Selling

As a photographer, I’ve owned and tested a variety of cameras, but there’s one Fujifilm camera that I genuinely regret selling: the Fujifilm X-T3. Let me take you back to where it all started.

How I Discovered the X-T3

In 2019, I landed a significant job on a Netflix production as a dialect coach and assistant to Ralph Fiennes. This was a pivotal moment for me—I had just transitioned into filmmaking and photography and was working alongside an incredible crew. One person I became particularly close with was the stills photographer on set. We built a great friendship, and I was fascinated by his work and process.

Eventually, I mustered up the courage to ask him what camera he was using. He had two Fujifilm X-T3s. At that time, I knew nothing about Fujifilm, as I was fully invested in Panasonic and had previously used Canon. But when I saw the stunning shots he was getting—some even straight out of the camera without edits—I was hooked. After the shoot, I went out and bought my first Fujifilm camera: the X-T3. That moment marked the beginning of my love for photography.

Falling in Love with the X-T3

The X-T3 became my go-to camera. I took it everywhere, and it was the camera that truly helped me craft my photographic style. Over time, however, I upgraded to Fujifilm’s flagship model, the X-H2S, which I still use today. To afford it, I sold my GH5, lenses, and my beloved X-T3. At the time, I was excited about my new setup, but as time passed, I realised just how much I missed that camera.

Why I Regret Selling the X-T3

Perfect Form Factor – The X-T3 is compact, slightly smaller than the X-H2 and more ergonomic than the X-Pro3. It was a joy to carry around.
Classic LCD Design – I preferred its tilting screen over the newer fully articulating screens, which felt more intuitive for photography.
Great Image Quality – Its 26MP sensor was more than enough for my needs, and the results were stunning.
Affordable Price – You can now pick up an X-T3 for around £500 second hand, making it an incredible deal for its capabilities.
Solid for Video – While it lacks IBIS, pairing it with a stabilised lens still yields excellent footage.

Looking back, I realise I didn’t get much money for selling it, and I wish I had kept it as a secondary camera.

Why This Matters for Beginners

I share this story because the Fujifilm X-T3 was used on a professional Netflix production in 2019. While newer models exist, it’s still an amazing camera for most photographers. You don’t need the latest and greatest gear to create incredible images—you just need creativity and the drive to shoot consistently. If you’re considering a Fujifilm camera, don’t overlook the X-T3, or even the X-T2 or X-T1. They are still more than capable of producing outstanding results.

Final Thoughts

If I had the chance, I’d love to have the X-T3 back in my kit. It was a camera that truly sparked my passion for photography, and sometimes, we don’t realise how much we appreciate something until it’s gone. If you’re in the market for a Fujifilm camera, the X-T3 is definitely worth considering.
