Why I’m Sticking with Fujifilm: Three Key Reasons
After some soul-searching over the Christmas break, I’ve decided to stick with Fujifilm heading into 2025. This wasn’t an easy choice, especially after airing my frustrations with certain Fujifilm features like autofocus in a previous video. However, after weighing the pros and cons of switching systems, three key reasons solidified my decision to stay with Fujifilm.
1. Cost Efficiency
Switching systems is an expensive endeavour, especially when considering a move to Sony. While Sony offers better autofocus performance, the cost of selling all my Fujifilm gear and starting fresh didn’t seem justified. Over the years, I’ve built an extensive Fujifilm kit, and the value I get from it outweighs the cost of switching for a single feature. For now, I’ve decided to embrace the compromises of Fujifilm’s autofocus while continuing to benefit from its affordability and versatility.
2. Investing in Myself
Rather than pouring money into a new system, I’m choosing to invest in my growth as a photographer. At the end of the day, the camera is just a tool. It’s the photographer’s skill, creativity, and vision that truly matter. In 2025, my focus will be on honing my craft, exploring new techniques, and expanding my skills. This mindset aligns with my mission to prioritise photography over gear discussions.
3. Falling in Love Again with the Fujifilm X100VI
The turning point for me was rediscovering the joy of shooting with the Fujifilm X100IV. Initially, I resisted the hype, but once I tried it, I was hooked. Its compact form, intuitive design, and versatile 23mm focal length (35mm full-frame equivalent) have made it my go-to camera. It’s reignited my passion for photography, and I’ve decided to use it as my primary camera in 2025. Whether I’m shooting landscapes in Ireland or candid street photos, the X100VI delivers an unmatched user experience.
Looking Ahead to 2025
While I have no allegiance to Fujifilm as a brand, my decision to stay reflects my desire to focus on my work rather than the tools. This year, I’m determined to dive deeper into the art of photography, try new styles, and continue to grow creatively. Fujifilm still provides the tools I need to achieve my goals, and for now, that’s enough.
As 2025 unfolds, I’m excited to see how this renewed focus shapes my photography journey.
