My Top 5 Most Used Fujifilm Lenses in 2024

As a travel and street photographer, the tools I use often shape my creative journey. This year, my lens preferences have shifted significantly compared to 2023. Last year, I balanced both photography and videography, but in 2024, photography took centre stage. Here’s a look at my top five most used Fujifilm lenses of the year and how they influenced my work.

My Top 5 Fujfilm Lenses of 2024

#5: Fujifilm 18mm f/1.4

I picked up this lens in Japan, and for the first few months, I couldn’t put it down. Its sharpness is outstanding, and it served me well in Thailand and South Korea. However, it hasn’t seen much action recently, which is why it ranks fifth. My main gripe? The focus and aperture rings feel loose, which detracts from the premium experience I expected. That said, its image quality remains top-tier, making it a worthwhile investment for photographers seeking sharp, vibrant results.

#4: TTArtisan 27mm f/2.8

This lightweight pancake lens is an absolute gem, especially for travel. TTArtisan sent it to me, and it quickly became a favourite. Compact and affordable, it’s perfect for inconspicuous shooting and offers incredible value for its price. While some might not love the vignetting, I find it adds character. I’ve taken some of my favorite photos with this lens, and its portability ensures it’s always in my bag.

#3: Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8

Last year’s champion now ranks third. The Sigma 18-35mm remains my go-to lens for video work, thanks to its excellent low-light performance and versatility. However, its heavy build meant it stayed home during my extended travels in Asia. It’s still a stellar lens for client work and vlogging, but its weight and reliance on an adapter make it less convenient for on-the-go photography.

#2: Fujifilm 33mm f/1.4

This newcomer to my kit has quickly become a favorite for photography. Equivalent to a 50mm focal length, it’s perfect for portraits and low-light situations. I love its tighter focus and aperture rings, which feel more premium compared to the 18mm. Paired with an ethereal Promist filter, this lens has helped elevate my photos this year. If I’d had it earlier, it might have claimed the top spot.

#1: Fujifilm 16-55mm f/2.8

The star of 2024, this lens earned its top spot through sheer versatility. Dubbed the “bag of primes,” it handled both photo and video work seamlessly. Weather-resistant and durable, it was my trusted companion throughout Asia and held up beautifully in harsh conditions. While it’s heavy and lacks optical image stabilization, its sharpness and focal range make it an essential hybrid lens. With a Mark II on the horizon, I’m curious to see how it compares.

Conclusion

Reflecting on my most-used lenses of 2024 has been an insightful exercise. Each lens has played a unique role in my journey, from the portability of the TTArtisan 27mm to the all-around versatility of the Fujifilm 16-55mm f/2.8. This list reminds me how essential it is to have tools that complement both creative needs and practical demands.

As I head into 2025, I’m excited to see how my gear evolves and what new lenses might become staples in my kit. Whether you’re a seasoned professional or just starting out, finding the right tools for your style can truly elevate your work. Here's to another year of growth and creativity.
