My Minimal Travel Camera Bag in 2025: Streamlined and Simplified

Every year, I create a "minimal travel camera bag" blog post and video. This marks the third time, and each year, the process becomes more refined. Initially, traveling with camera gear overwhelmed me. Deciding what to bring and what bag to use felt daunting. But over time, I’ve learned to embrace simplicity.

In 2025, I’ve further honed my setup. Last year, I pared things down to a sling bag, and this year, I’m still rocking the same one: the Peter McKinnon Gomatic Sling Bag.

Overwhelmed???

Why the Peter McKinnon Sling Bag Stands Out

This bag has been my go-to for years. It’s fully waterproof, handles harsh weather like a champ, and has a plethora of pockets for leads, SD cards, and batteries. The expandable front pouch is perfect for holding quick-access items—even a sandwich or baguette.

What’s Inside My Travel Camera Bag in 2025

This year, I’m taking only three devices—two cameras and a compact video solution.

1. Fujifilm X100VI

This new addition to my gear kit has been a game-changer. Its fixed 23mm lens (35mm equivalent on full-frame) aligns perfectly with my growing love for simplicity and sharpens my creativity. Limiting myself to one focal length forces me to move, think, and shoot more intentionally.

2. Ricoh GR IIIx

Small enough to fit in my pocket, the Ricoh GR IIIx has captured some of my favorite images. Its 40mm equivalent focal length complements the Fujifilm perfectly. This discreet camera is my go-to for candid street photography.

3. DJI Osmo Pocket 3

For video content, the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 is unbeatable. Its compact design, creative combo accessories, and excellent mic make it perfect for vlogging and capturing smooth travel footage.

Accessories That Always Come Along

  • Notebook and Pen: Writing by hand keeps me organised and mindful.

  • Slim Power Bank: Essential for charging on the go, especially for the Ricoh GR IIIx.

  • AirPods: For editing and relaxing on the move.

  • Mini Tripod: Great for setting up shots or watching videos during downtime.

  • Leads: For charging devices and cameras

  • SD Cards: For all three cameras

  • Batteries: Again for obvious reasons

Why I’m Leaving the Big Gear Behind

My Fujifilm XH2s and lenses are staying home more often. While I love their versatility, I’m embracing the creative limitations of a smaller kit. Minimalism in gear has helped reduce travel anxiety and allowed me to focus on photography, not equipment.

Goals for 2025: Tell Better Stories with Your Photography

This year, my focus is on mastering the art of storytelling in photography—creating images that evoke emotion and leave a lasting impression. For me, great photography isn’t about the latest gear; it’s about capturing moments with intention and meaning. If you share this goal, I’ve designed "The Storyteller’s Lens" to help you transform your photography.

This course is a deep dive into storytelling fundamentals, covering lighting, composition, perspective, and editing. Whether you’re a beginner or looking to refine your skills, you’ll learn how to create photos that stand out and tell a story. 2025 is your year to elevate your craft. Head to my website to join the course and start creating images that truly resonate.
